Trial experience is scarce, particularly in larger firms. Many law firms, especially large ones, manage to overstaff yet underprepare cases for trial. We look forward to opponents throwing four, five, ten, or twenty lawyers with little or no trial experience. We do not advise it for our clients.
The large-firm model can also warp incentives that undermine the client’s interests in other ways. Many law firms have become so large and bureaucratized that the client may find herself asking, is my outside counsel working for me, or my law firm? Are my lawyers able to try my case?
We operate with far fewer lawyers per matter than most of our competitors – but our lawyers know the case and know how to try it.
